Horticultural crops have their own application requirements. Fruit growers are faced with a wide variety of canopy structures, including fruit trees (top fruit and stone fruit), bushes (currants and berries), low profile soft fruit like strawberriesand vertically and horizontally trained vines (hops and grapes). There is a requirement for targeted coverage with good canopy penetration - with lightweight, low volume sprayers desirable to improve workrate and allow optimum spray timings to be achieved. Controlled Droplet Application (CDA), pioneered and developed by Micron Sprayers in the United Kingdom, provides growers with the possibility of cost effective and targeted application. CDA delivers control of the droplet size range produced for goodcanopy coverage with insecticides and fungicides at low volumes to achieve the best control of foliar insect pests and diseases. Marrying CDA with air assistance optimised for good canopy penetration whilst minimising movement outside the crop canopy toreduce environmental impact is an exciting new development.
