摘要

Namibia is one of the most arid countries of the world, It has a low and variable rainfall, ranging from 20 millimetres in the south to 600 millimetres in the northeast. There are no permanently flowing rivers except the Kunene and the Orange Rivers which form the northern and southern borders respectively. The high variability of rainfall includes periodically years of well-below-average rainfall. This significantly reduces the meaningfulness of average rainfall figures for the country. About 70 percent of Namibia's total population of 1,7 Million live in the rural areas with approximately 90 percent deriving their livelihood from agriculture.
