UK researchers have warned that key pesticides for use on cereals and oilseed rape are under threat from new EU legislation on agrochemical registration and water quality. The proposed revision of the EU agrochemical registration Directive (91/414) would result in the loss of about 23 active ingredients, they say. However, this will not be the only cause of large-scale losses of ais, warns the UK agricultural consultancy, ADAS. The implementation of the EU water framework Directive (2000/60) is likely to have an impact on ten herbicides and other key pesticides, it says. Ai losses due to the EU water rules would be additional to any losses from the revision of Directive 91/414.
