摘要

The "Projet d' Amenagement des Terroirs et Conservation des Ressources dans le Plateau central" (PATECORE) in Burkina Faso has been looking at participative land use planning since 1988. In a wish to-strengthen local planning and decision-making structures in the villages, an approach has been developed which uses process-orientated procedures and dialogue to improve resource management at village level. The people of the central plateau in Burkina Faso understand desertification only too well. Theyhave first-hand experience of how their harvests have steadily declined and fields have had to be abandoned when the soil became so banen that cultivation is simply no longer worthwhile. They are working hard to preserve arable land and reclaim areas already lost. Since 1988 they have been assisted in their efforts by PATECORE, a project supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Technische Zu-sammenarbeit (GTZ).
