Century Aluminum Co. plans to close its Mount Holly aluminum smelter in Goose Creek, S.C., by year-end if a "competitively priced" power deal can't be reached with the area's electricity provider."Between now and Dec. 31, when the power contract expires, we will do everything we can to fight to get a new power contract that allows the plant to stay open," the Chicago-based company said in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notice issued to around 600 employees Oct. 22.
