摘要

As per 20th Livestock Census, Kalaburagi district has the highest goat population (473800) in Karnataka state (Anon, 2019). In recent years, nondescript goats are less preferred by the commercial goat entrepreneurs due to their low productivity as compared to upgraded crosses. For genetic improvement of goats, selective breeding within the native breeds is popular among the goatherds. However, upgrading of the non-descript goats by crossing with Sirohi and/or Jamunapari breed is being commonly practised by few goat farmers in recent times, expecting significant increase in production within a short period. The present study is aimed at upgrading local non-descript goats by crossing with Sirohi bucks and to evaluate growth, reproduction and economics of Feneration kids.
