摘要

Seven Democratic senators are pushing back against industry arguments that the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement bars a proposed Canadian law that would ban many single-use plastics, setting up a possible fight over whether the agreement would also block similar limits in the United States. In a Dec. 7 letter addressed to U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Canadian Minister of Trade Mary Ng, as reported by Inside EPA, the senators - citing wide-ranging research on the hazards of plastic waste - argue that the proposed ban on single-use plastics meets a USMCA requirement stating that environmental restrictions must be based on "sound science."
