Some of the significant challenges being faced by researchers in the UK to sell their research are discussed. They are facing such challenges due to increased competition and reduced funding for their efforts as a result of economic crisis. It is being observed that the recession has started to affect funding from charities and this has led to the contraction of some research groups. These trends are being increasingly noticed in medicine and biosciences where charity funding represents a greater percentage of the research income. Many funders are now expecting research to make a demonstrable social-economic impact along with the challenge of reduced research funding. The UK Research Councils, which fund the majority of the research undertaken in UK universities has changed the application process to increase the prominence of socio-economic impact in the evaluation of research grants.
