摘要

Miners exposed to respirable crystalline silica (RCS) have an increased risk for developing silicosis, lung cancer, tuberculosis, autoimmune disorders, chronic renal disease and other adverse health effects. Crystalline silica (SiO2) occurs in a variety of forms and the most abundant naturally occurring form is α-quartz, which is found in trace to major quantities in most rock types and soils. Cristobalite and tridymite are also naturally occurring forms of crystalline silica but are much less common than quartz. As a consequence, the vast majority of RCS exposures in mining are related to quartz inhalation.
