The present manuscript deals with the detailed taxonomic studies on 12 genus 20 species and 1 subspecies belonging to the family Thelypteridaceae, critical notes (wherever essential), ecological habitat and distribution is also provided. This is the first detailed account of the family thelypteridaceae from Garhwal Himalayas The family Thelypteridaceae constitutes a modern group of advanced leptosporangiate ferns, consisting of about 1000 species. The Thelypteroid ferns are characterized by the presence of various types of epidermal appendages all over the plant body. Christensen (1938) was the first to group them in the tribe Thelypteridaceae, sub-family Dryopteri-dacea under the family Polypodiaceae, Ching (1940) raised it to the family rank and this has upheld by Dickason (1946) as well as Holttum (1947).
