The present paper deals with the taxonomic and distributional status of the family Juncaginaceae and Zannichelliaceae in India. The family Juncaginaceae comprises 3 genera and about 25 species distributed chiefly in North and South temperate regions,where as the family Zannichelliaceae comprises 3 genera and about 6 species in cosmopolitan distribution (Mabberley, 1998). In India, Juncaginaceae is represented by single genus namely Triglochin L. with two species viz. Triglochin maritima L. and T. palustris L. The family Zannichelliaceae in India is represented by single genus namely Zannichellia L. with a single species Zannichellia palustris L. (Karthikeyan, 2000). Members of both the families have been distributed mainly in the Cold desert regionof Western Himalaya (Murti, 2001).
