In 2020, an analysis of the World Health Organization (WHO) pharmacovigilance database identified 162 observations of cardiac arrhythmias attributed to Ginkgo biloba (1). More than 30 products containing Ginkgo biloba extracts were implicated.In 92 cases, the product based on Ginkgo biloba was the sole suspect medicine. In 55 cases, the cardiac arrhythmias were considered serious. Seven patients died. The adverse effects were most often reported as a sensation of palpitations (67 cases), tachycardia (24 cases), loss of consciousness (14 cases), syncope (13 cases), and bradycardia (10 cases) (1).
