摘要

It is highly possible that drinking cold water may lead to an increase in blood pressure (BP), which may be a risk for patients with cardiovascular diseases, especially in those with hypertension. However, the difference in the effect of drinking warm water as against drinking cold water on BP is yet unclear. This study included 44 normotensive college students (25 boys and 19 girls; age, 22.5±0.9 years). After 12min of rest, the right brachial BP was measured using an electronic manometer (OMRON HEM-7000) three times and was considered the baseline BP (R14, R16, and R18). The participants were then asked to drink 300 ml of warm (30°C) or cold (4°G) water within 30 s, which was assigned in random order. After drinking, the BP was measured immediately (DO) and repeatedly at 2min intervals for 22min (D2-D22). The next day, the study was reperformed, but the drinks were switched. The differences in BP at each time point, BP after drinking with the BP before drinking (R18), were calculated as ABP to obtain the ABP-time curve. The difference in BP-DO and BP-R18 was recorded as BP increase amplitude (IM).
