The Zensai exhibit turns the spotlight on the Gardens own permanent Japanese Garden, a Cleveland cultural treasure since 1975. A spiritual and serene garden space, it induces a contemplative state of mind through subtle cues that resemble natural forms and landscape features. One of the true joys of visiting Cleveland Botanical Garden is uncovering its symbolism and meanings. The central area of the garden is comprised of the arbor, washbasin, lawn and hillside. The arbor nestles in among trees and shrubs, drawing from the woodland scenario. The washbasin is another element drawn from the tea garden style. Both green and red Japanese Maples share this little woodland with Canadian Hemlock.
