Global crude steel production reached another record high in 2012. Accordingto the up-to-date information from the WSA, global output grew by 1.2% yearon-year to 1.548 billion tonnes, which is above the increase of 0.5% to 1.53-1.537 billion tonnes anticipated by Metal Expert, yet below the consensusforecast of the world.s analytic agencies (up 2.5%). The statistical error ofMetal Expert.s forecast resulted from underestimation of the rates of launchingnew capacities (they were expected to slow down) and utilizing the existingcapacities (Q4 average error is 3.8 percentage points, with the maximum oneof 4.7 percentage points recorded in November).
