摘要

The International Scientific Advisory Board of Cyclodextrins decided in Kyoto on the venue of the 15th International Cyclodextrin Symposium in 2010 to be in Vienna. This Kyoto decision in 2008 reminded me of the decision of the International Olympic Association to hold the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens Greece, with the motto: "WELCOME HOME”. The motto of the 15th International Cyclodextrin Symposium in Vienna could also be "WELCOME HOME! better to say WELCOME TO THE CRADLE OF CYCLODEXTRINS!”. This motto will refer to the fact that one of the most decisive pioneers of cyclodextrin technology was undoubtedly an Austrian, a Viennese scientist named Franz Schardinger. This Vienna meeting is, therefore, considered homage to Schardinger and an indication on that cyclodextrin scientists keep Schrodinger’s legacy alive by getting together in Vienna in just a few days from now. The author of this article is pleased and honored to look back on Franz Schardinger’s scientific technical achievements and on his great impact on our everyday works.
