The major disadvantage of most chemotherapeutic approaches to cancer treatment is that most of them are non-specific. These non-specific techniques result in the well-known side effects of chemotherapy as the cytotoxic drug attacks normal, healthy cells in addition to its primary target, tumor cells. To overcome this great disadvantage, targeted drug delivery systems such as magnetic nanoparticles can be used [1]. Magnetic nanoparticles are a class of nanoparticles which can be manipulated using magnetic field. These particles have been widely studied because of their potential applications in biomedicines such as tags in sensing and imaging, as active agents in hyperthermia therapy [2], in biomolecular separation, targeted drug delivery, cancer diagnosis and treatment, DNA separation and detection, sequencing of oligonucleotides, magnetic resonance imaging, etc. Among magnetic particles, iron oxides (Fe2O3 and Fe3O4) and other iron salts like chloride, sulfate, etc. have been extensively investigated [3].
