摘要

Humanitarian crises remain a major challenge, but it's encouraging how aid responses continue to improve. Recently, we've seen renewed interest in how best to integrate palliative care into aid efforts. The range of people who would benefit from this integration is broad. It includes people with potentially life limiting conditions resulting from the crisis and those with complex chronic conditions who may have benefited from palliative care before a disaster. Likewise, there are those who, in the midst of communicable disease outbreaks with high mortality, like Ebola, face a high likelihood of serious symptom burden and death. Finally, palliative care may include support for family and medical providers struggling with the burden of care and loss.
