Four extactants were tried viz. 0.05 N HCl + 0.025 N H_2SO_4, EDIA + (NH4)_2CO_3 (pH 8.6), DTPA (pH 7.3) and 2 N MgCl_2 to usses the available zinc status of alkaline soils from Haryana and Delhi Slates. The extracted amounts of zinc by various extraetants were correlated with soil zinc fractions. The extracting power of different extractants was in the order of 0.05 N HCI + 0.025 n H_2SO_4 > EDTA + (NH4)_2CO_3> DTPA (pH 7.3) > 2 N MgCl_2. Simple correlation revealed that DTPA had a better correlation with occluded zinc by sesquioxides (r=0.839**) and organically bound zinc (r=0.526*).
