Daily Document Update: HR Compliance Library, ?45,903, Bipartisan bill would expand FMLA leave to include death of a child
The proposal would amend the FMLA to include death of a child as a qualifying event, with intermittent and reduced schedules permitted only by agreement. On February 7, Representative Brad Schneider (D-IL), along with five cosponsors, introduced the Parental Bereavement Act of 2019, bipartisan legislation that would help families grieving the loss of a child take time off work. The bill was introduced in tandem with the 26th anniversary of the Family and Medical Leave Act, signed into law on February 5, 1993.
