Dr. Keohane has been president of both Duke University and Wellesley College, and in addition has served for many years as a professor of political theory. She draws on this experience to write a refreshing and riveting review of Leadership and its nature. To begin with, she considers the subject from the point of view of both the leader and the led. Second, she examines leaderships role not only in formal organizations but also in informal communities of need, including a coalition of the homeless dedicated to the task of managing day-to-day survival.
