The Future of History. John Lukacs. New Haven, CT: Yale University Press, April 2011,224 pages, $26. "Everything has its history, including history," and history itself has a future, since everything we know comes form the past. The author of some 30 books on history shows the state of disarray of the historian profession, traces the decline in history teaching throughout higher education-matched by the corresponding reduction in the number of history students-and reviews a series of short-lived fads within the profession that have weakened the fundamentals of the field.
