The automotive industry is currently undergoing a transformation toward a networked, autonomous, shared, and electric mobility. A powerful 5G network is the prerequisite for the constant data exchange with mobile edge computing required for efficient automation and for automated driving. In the interview with ATZelectronics, Markus Dillinger from Huawei points out which challenges are still to be overcome. DILLINGER _ Based on more than 30 years of experience in the field of ICT, Huawei has developed innovative automotive components to support OEMs with the development of future-proof and intelligent vehicles, and also to offer a reliable driving experience. Overall, we offer a range of hardware and software solutions for areas such as telematics, high-performance computing, smart cockpit solutions, intelligent energy management for electric cars, and a range of cloud services for highly automated driving. Energy management includes charging as well as the efficient interaction between drive unit and batteries during driving operation, for example the minimization of charging and operational losses. The Smart Cockpit connects people in order to seamlessly network vehicles and stationary work environments. This enables devices to be operated easily via apps in the car that turn it into a mobile office or private cinema. Highly automated driving functions are made possible with high-performance computer units. Thanks to efficient object recognition, people in cities can easily navigate complex scenarios under a range of weather and traffic conditions and, on demand, be driven. For example, the solution enables the navigation of a route from home to an underground parking slot at the place of work.
