摘要

Over one-third of Americans over the age of 18 use some form of complementary and/or alternative medicine (CAM). Like the author's 2002 Herbal Internet Companion, this text was written for a general audience as an informational guide to finding safe and reliable information on CAM therapies published on the Internet. The book covers the basic fundamentals in navigating the World Wide Web and evaluating Web sites for accuracy, as well as issues of herb/drug interactions, side effects of herbs, and fraud and quackery. The author discusses the significance of understanding herbal product labels, knowing the different names (common and scientific) of herbs, and searching the medical literature. Each specific disease discussed provides the URL, a brief overview, and a Web site screen shot. A nice feature is the coverage supplied for special populations including women's health issues, the aged, parents and children, and pet health. The Web sites compiled in this book are largely chosen from governmental agencies and other reputable organizations.
