摘要

Noroviruses are the main causative agents of viral gastroenteritis. In addition to person-to-person transmission, epidemiological investigations indicate that contaminated food plays an important role in causing outbreaks. At the Bavarian food and health authorities, a molecular method for the detection of noroviruses in food and environmental samples was established in 2005. After viral isolation and concentration, nucleic acid was extracted and detected using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). DNA sequencing was applied to verify positive results. In a food surveillance study conducted between September 2005 and April 2006, a total of 102 food, drinking water and environmental samples from 14 endemic norovirus outbreaks were investigated for norovirus contamination. The high number of samples associated with norovirus outbreaks points out the importance of a suitable molecular method for routine microbiological monitoring of food..
