In the US, the planned refinery and 10K-b/d crude distillation unit will receive electricity from a solar power project that MMEX Resources Corp. plans to develop. MMEX Solar Resources, LLC has been formed and it expects to supply renewable energy to the first two phases of the refinery. MMEX owns 126 acres (51.3 hectares) and it expects to build one MW of solar power per four acres (1.6 hectares) for its Fort Stockton (Pecos County, Texas) refinery. The company expects Phase 1 of the refinery to use approximately two MW of power and Phase 2 to use 35-50 MW. MMEX is discussing leasing additional acreage that would facilitate another 75-100 MW of solar power, with excess being sold into the grid.
