With the premium for hydrous ethanol over raw sugar in the Center-South region climbing to a record 4.5^/lb on Jan. 18, ethanol use in the country could be ready to increase as sugar producers look to increase hydrous ethanol production, which in turn would spur more domestic ethanol use. An over 20 rise in Brazilian gasoline prices since last July is also spurring increasing ethanol use. According to the latest projections by Kingsman, the agricultural analysis unit of SP Global Platts, 55.00 of the sugarcane harvested in the Center-South region during April 2018-March 2019 will be directed to ethanol production, up from 53.07 during April 2017-March 2018.
