This article is a current synthesis on the main genetic hypotheses related to human peopling history of East Asia, based on the analysis of different genetic systems and their comparison to archaeological and linguistic data. The general introduction (chapter 1) explains how genetics uses different approaches to analyze human diversity and interpret the results in relation to peopling history. Chapter 2 gives an overview of the results related to the first human settlements of this continent, with an explanation on how our ideas evolved since the first population genetics analyses until today. Chapter 3 describes the principal theories on more recent human migrations (like the Neolithic period) founded on the confrontation of genetic data and linguistic information.
