After benzene prices in the US jumped to $1,249.82/mt, Asian benzene rose by $ll/mt to $1,093/mt as Brent crude futures rose by $1.83/bbl to $107.08/bbl as buyers looked to ensure physical commitments for the end of May and beginning of June were met. European benzene prices were the highest globally at $1,346/mt. Also, the high European price opened the arbitrage between Asia and Europe as Asian benzene was currendy priced at a discount of $148.50/mt after accounting for a freight rate of $84/mt. According to one South Korean trader, "I heard a major trader has already shipped 15K mt to Europe."
