摘要

The central dogma of molecular biology states that DNA is transcribed into RNA which is translated into proteins, suggesting that the only function of RNA is as an intermediary for protein synthesis. The advent of next-generation sequencing technologies has led to the discovery of tens of thousands of non- coding RNAs (more than the number of protein-coding messenger RNAs!) and a subsequent paradigm shift in our understanding of RNA biology and function.
