For the first time,the US supermajor reported emissions from the use of its products(Scope 3 emissions)following pressure from investors pushing ExxonMobil Corp.to do more to combat climate change.XOM reported Scope 3 emissions equivalent to 730MM mt of CO2 in 2019,higher than rival majors.ExxonMobil now plans to cut the methane emissions intensity of its operations by 40-50 of a 2016 baseline by 2050 and plans to eliminate routine flaring.In addition,the company plans to reduce Scope 1(emissions directly from the company's operations)and Scope 2 emissions(indirect emissions from the company's assets)by 30 starting in 2030 and to begin reporting Scope 3 emissions(indirect emissions from the company's value chain).
