The new contract, which will be launched on the Shanghai Clearing House (SHCH), will use ICIS's quotes for paraxylene (PX) on a CFR and a China Main Ports basis multiplied with the central parity exchange rate between the yuan and US dollar to generate a monthly average price. China has been a major PX importer in recent years, but the country's dependence on imports have fallen from 60% in 2016 to 40% this year and is expected to decline even further in the coming two years.
