Even though the Southeast Asian nation's recycling rates have generally been poor, Vietnam is now aiming to increase municipal plastic recycling rates to 90% by 2025. Vietnam has been forced to take in increased volumes of plastic waste in recent years after China banned shipments into its ports and has become the largest importer of scrap plastics from the use, increasing imports of polyethylene and polyethylene-terephthalate plastic waste by 166% and 137% from year earlier levels from Jan. to Nov. 2017.
