We followed the abundance and changes of aphid species flying over (migrating and/or swarming) and feeding on broad bean for 20 years (1982-2001). Data were collected in Mosonmagyarovar and the results are relevant to the region of Kisalfold. The ranges of data confirm that aphids fly over and feed on plants over the entire vegetation period. Changes of abundance should be considered every year and within the breeding period. Based on the data of 20 years, peaks can be observed between the first decades of May and July, showing different values every year. A total of 24 aphid species were caught with the traps. Among them aphids living on broad bean had the following rates but with certain differences every year: Acyrthosiphon pisum Harr., 1.9-50.8%, Aphis fabae Scop., 4.8-77.4%, A. craccivora Koch., 0.0-26.3%, Myzus persicae Sulz., 0.3-32.1%. The rate of aphids (listed according to the order of the above species) feeding on broad bean developed between the following extreme values: 0-99, 1-92, 0-33, 0-4% every year. Dominance of aphid species calculated according to the data collected for 20 years: A. pisum 10%, A. fabae 83%, A. craccivora 6%, M. persicae 1%. Based on our data, A. fabae proved to be the dominant among the species that damaged broad bean in the region of Kisalf ld. Linear regression analyses of data ranges revealed a significant relationship between the relative number of species caught and those living on the plants per decade R2=0.8283 proving a possible and reliable forecast. Data upon traps and on surveying the plants as well as mid temperature values per decade produced a strong relationship of R2=0.6953 and 0.6688 was due to continuous temperature fluctuation. There was a strong relationship between the effective heat sum, calculated according to the temperature data between 1 May and 31 July, and the number of aphids caught in traps. R2=0.9353 featured the relationship between the effective heat sum and the number of aphids trapped, and a relationship of R2=0.9117 according to aphids feeding on the plants. Heat sum is a reference to the development of peaks and makes prediction more reliable.
