We have developed new sound isolation materials with the aim of achieving weight reduction, focusing in particular on the use of polyester fibers. The new materials provide noticeably higher performance than the traditional materials like cotton fabric or formed polyurethane. Another feature of the new materials is excellent recyclability since they are made of polyester. That work has resulted in the development of polyester fiber materials, with excellent sound and vibration absorption characteristics, for application to the dash silencer and floor carpet pad. Application of the new materials to those produced great improvement in vehicle interior noise, while providing weight saving.
