A new cost effective method for producing bimetal pipe has been developed in Australia and has recently notched up its first offshore application.CladTek of Perth has pioneered the new process for lining carbon steel pipe with a corrosion resistant alloy(CRA)liner by applying high internal mechanical pressure to expand the liner inside the pipe to bond the two together. The resulting product can be used for construction of pipelines, risers and flowlines which are competitive with the cost of using solid CRA pipelines or carbon steel pipe protected by chemical inhibitionin some instances,CARs need cathodic protection and chemical inhibitors can lose effectiveness due to temperature, pressure or contaminants, says the company.
