The Kongsberg Maritime acoustic control system (ACS) for blowout preventers has experienced a surge in worldwide sales, soon to surpass more than 100 operational units. The ACS (pictured) is a redundant receiver/transmitter for communication with the rig through acoustics, interfaced to the BOP control pod so that different sets of emergency functions can be executed to shut the well down when normal communication with the BOP is not possible.
