The processing of oil based mud contaminated cutting has,over the years,gone through many phases and generated any number of 'solutions'.Abereen's Total Waste Management Alliance (TWMA),for instance,had been processing oily wastes and cuttings using a variety of technologies (including thermal desorption) since 1982.But it considered none of them entirely suitable for offshore application-until now.
