Exploration drilling in shallow water presents its own share of difficulties, but add interaction with sea ice into the equation and the challenge of designing platform concepts for such an environment is redoubled. Following involvement in shallow water projects in Bohai Bay, the North Sea and Nigeria, Hamburg-based IMPaC Offshore Engineering was contracted by Parker Drilling to take a hand in the development of an ice-resistant drilling barge for the north Caspian Sea.
