Electricity generation by all methods in Asia has been projected to grow at about 3.4% per year through 2020.Natural gas,with its higher thermal efficiency and relatively low emission of environmental pollutants as compared with other hydrocarbons,is the fuel of choice to meet increasing electricity demand and is expected to grow at 4.5% per annum.Although usage of natural gas will sharply increase in most Asian nations,advances in clean coal technology are anticipated to enhance the growth of this competing fuel,especially in China and India,where heavy reliance on their extensive indigenous coal deposits is set to remain.
