ASTM COMMITTEE C28 ON ADVANCED Ceramics is currently seeking participation in a new subcommittee, C28.04 on Applications. According to subcommittee chair Dave Carruthers, C28.04 was established in 2003 to focus on identifying new or existing advanced ceramic applications for which new consensus performance test standards are needed for commercial success. "The subcommittee is striving to obtain input from the community on needs and priorities, and on the availability of stakeholders to participate in standards development," says Carruthers. The subcommittee has identified several areas in which new testing standards may be beneficial, including nano-ceramics, coatings, electronics, porous applications, fuel cells, armor, sensors and actuators, and thermal systems. The subcommittee is currently identifying interested stakeholders, including developers, manufacturers, users, academicians, and evaluators. Involvement is being sought by making contacts with individuals, as well as working with existing technical and trade organizations, such as the American Ceramic Society, the United States Fuel Cell Council, the Solid State Energy Conversion Alliance and the United States Advanced Ceramic Association.
