What weather it was too. We left England in bright wintery sunshine heading smoothly, we hoped, for the 14th Noelanders Trophy, but winter was against us. Arriving through the Channel Tunnel to Calais, France, we were greeted by several inches of frozen snow. Next morning, we awoke to a temperature of -6° C and frozen conditions, with some 200 miles to drive to Heusden-Zolder, an old mining town in Eastern Belgium. Snow, snow and more snow all the way, the Belgium authorities were generous with their salt and gritting and the roads remained passable.
