A pharmaceuticals' symposium and biotech business development get together in Japan has opened the door to a program of regular biopartnering exchanges between Australian and Japanese companies. The 5th Australian/Japan Symposium on Drug Design and Development held mid-May in the Japanese city of Nara provided the starting point. Coinciding with the symposium, Austrade's biotech team in Osaka convened a business partnering seminar for 14 Australian biotech companies and two industry organisations toshowcase their capabilities in an informal setting at the Australian Consul General's residence in Kobe. Pathways to Inspirational Partnerships in Biotechnology, as it was titled, introduced the Australian companies to major pharmaceutical manufacturers, local government executives and Japanese academics working on biotech research and development.
