摘要

The West Australian Chapter of the Australian Geomechanics Society hosted the annual Young Geotechnical Professionals' Seminar and the fifth Dr Baden Clegg Competition in July 2006. This gives young (under 35 years old) geotechnical engineers, geologists and other geotechnical professionals an opportunity to present a 10 minute seminar on a topic of interest to the wider geotechnical community. To strongly encourage young engineers in participation, the 1~(st) prize has been increased from 200 dollars in 2005 to 500 dollars in 2006. While in 2005 four presentations were given on rock falls, slope failure, compaction and landfill projects, in 2006 there were three presentations on industrial and research projects comprising: Stuart Ellis from Parsons Brinkerhoff on "Rehabilitation of an Uncontrolled Landfill Site for Residential Development". Manh N Tran from WorleyParsons on "Suction Caisson: A New Offshore Foundation Concept". Owen Woodland from Golder Associates on "Harbour Deepening at Fremantle Port".
