THE floral wreaths laid at the foot of cenotaphs throughout Australia on Anzac Day are perhaps the most prominent ex-ample of horticulture's role in remembering the fallen. The fact that poppies have become the official symbol of remembrance also reinforces the special place plant life has in connecting with Australia's military past. One of the most recent and ambitious horticulture tributes exists within Melbourne's Shrine of Remembrance.
