If a Crest magnesium plant, or some variant, is ever constructed, directors and employees will be entitled to a wry smile, as the company has had a roller-caster existence.Various studied since 1998 have assessed the Arthur/Lyons River magnesium metal project at anything from 25,000 tpa to 90,000 tpa. Crest proposed to use the UTI/VAMI technology for this project, as used in the Dead Sea Magnesium Plant. It received an exclusive licence to this effect and in September 2000, in a bright spot for the company, UTI/AMI successfully produced magnesium metal in test-work from Arthur/Lyons River ore.
