A food poisoning emergency linked to seafood was simulated at the recent Australasian Aquaculture Conference 2012 in Melbourne. Thirty participants tested the current Seafood Incident Response Plan to check how well it works. The seafood business is aFOOD business. Therefore ensuring our products are safe to eat is a very critical component of the success of our industry. How often do you hear "I am allergic to seafood!", or "So and so seafood makes me sick!" Are these people actually allergic to seafood, or was there some contamination or additives to which they had a reaction. We may never know, but it is obvious that someone who has had a food safety issue will not go back and eat that seafood.
