Because they are efficient at converting forages to protein, beef cattle are common in almost every country in the world. Many regions of Central and South America, like the coastal plains of Costa Rica, are especially well suited to beef cattle production because of rich soils, abundant rainfall and an extended growing season. The tropical or subtropical nature of these regions dictate that the cattle carry some percentage of Zebu breeding in order to better handle the heat, humidity and insect challenges. Brangus, of course, is a logical fit for Costa Rican cattle country.
