摘要

Butterflies are internationally recognised as valuable indicators of a healthy, biodiverse environment, sensitive to subtle changes in habitat or climate. To see these 'fairies of the forest' on the wing - the green and black males or the gold, whiteand black females - is to become entranced. They are a beautiful sight in their own right as well as showing us that we have a healthy environment to live in. As Friends of a Regional Botanic Garden, many of our objectives relate to the conservation of local plants and animals, such as to recreate local plant communities to encourage return of animal species especially birds, lizards and insects. This year our 'insect' focus has been on the local and 'vulnerable' Richmond Birdwing Butterflies.
