South-west Queensland lies to the south of Central West Queensland and west of the Darling Downs and includes the Maranoa district and parts of the Channel Country. Towns of South-west Queensland include Charleville, Roma, St George, CunnamuM. and Glenmorgan where the Myall Park Botanic Garden is located. The recent summer seasons have produced magnificent food supplies of nectar and seed, rewarding birds, reptiles and invertebrates alike. Annual rainfall can be as low as 200 mm with temperatures ashigh as 45°C. Lately, however, the area has experienced higher rainfall and cooler temperatures. These conditions have given members of some plant families the opportunity to grow and flower prolifically. The Proteaceae, Asteraceae, Poaceae and Myrtaceae families include many of the most reliable food producers. Proteaceae species are few in number in this region but their contribution is great.
